Teenage Daughter was selling magazines for a school fundraiser last month, and being the suckers (oops! I mean dutiful parents) that we are- we of course subscribed to a couple new magazines... I chose Ladies Home Journal. J subscribed to Popular Mechanics and Real Simple.
Our first magazine arrived in the mail today.
It would be an understatement to say that J was disappointed... Having never seen the magazine before, he thought it was a magazine about organizing things around the house while simplifying your life. He had visions of creating organized spaces with Bob Villa type projects... It's an understandable mistake since their tag line is life made easier and the sales catalog did advertise a magazine full of organization and household tips... At a full inch thick. It is a glossy publication full of beauty and style tips with a few (not simple!) recipes thrown in. It really is a very beautiful magazine- it's just not not J expected however... So it looks like I have a new magazine subscription...
I do have one complaint about the magazine however... Being a thick magazine, it's full of those tear out inserts. I hate those inserts. They keep the pages from turning properly and lying flat when you read the magazine. So the first thing I did was go through and pull them all out... It was quite a stack.
So now that I've removed all those pesky inserts- I think I'll go look at the pretty pictures in my new magazine...

Ah, yes. Real Simple. My first encounter with this magazine involved a french toast recipe with something like twelve steps. For french toast. Which I already knew how to make.
Um. NOT simple. But the pictures are real nice. :-)
Wow, that's a lot of recipes! I f you want a magazine about organizing, try Organize. It's great, but not Bob Villa-ish at all.
